May 3, 2008 "The story of the proposal began a few weeks before the actual proposal when Chip began telling me he was going to take me to Aptos , where we took our first vacation together (well, other than the camping trip we took when I was 18 which doesn't really count), so he could propose. The weekend before the alleged trip to Aptos, we went to Seattle to visit Chip's Mom and John. They live on a beautiful island about and hour south of Seattle named Fox Island . On the Saturday we were there, they had an all day birthday extravaganza to go to, so we decided to go into Seattle for the day. We spent the morning walking around Pike's Place Market and all the surrounding streets. We walked up and down all the piers and watched the water go by. The day was a little overcast, but still wonderful. We finally ended up sitting at a bench on the end of one of the piers. We watched a seal, or sea lion I don't remember the difference, swim by as we sat and held hands. Then I felt Chip slip a ring on my finger and ask if I would marry him. It is Chip's grandma's ring his mother had given him to give to me and it is just beautiful. After I cried a little bit, only me though, I of course said yes. Chip surprised me with a hotel room at beautiful Hotel Deco in Seattle and it felt like our room overlooked the whole city. We had our first dinner as Fiancees at a delicious Vietnamese restaurant named Monsoon . So that is the story, there was no trip to Aptos, but I was completely surprised."
